Kreydenweiss, “Clos du Val d’Eleon,” Alsace (2017)
Companion planting of 50% each Riesling and Pinot Gris to revive an old and famous tradition of “gentils” (superior blended wines of noble grape varieties) located on grey slate of Villé, on the downstream of Grand Cru Clos Rebberg. Kreydenwiess farms biodynamically, and his wines are always stunners. The palate is beautiful, straight forward, and typical of its blue slate terroir: true mineral character, with almost crystalline structure, like an elaborate gothic cathedral's web of windows and stone moldings. A dream with grilled fish and zucchini.
