The dining room at 2941 is as tasteful as its French-American fare.

$$$ 2941 (2941 Fairview Park Dr., Falls Church, VA; 703/270-1500; www.2941.com) is anything but by-the-numbers. It's an unexpected sanctuary, nestled along the high-tech highways and byways of Northern Virginia. Guests pass a fish pond filled with koi just as they reach the front doors, while inside, windows soaring to the sky-high ceiling look out on a small, man-made lake, a Walden Pond for the fine dining set. Angled mirrors hang above the wide, welcoming dining room, warmed in winter by crackling hearth fires. It's as much a feast for the eyes as chef Jonathan Krinn's French American fare (kobe beef and cheeseburgers share menu space with the caramelized pheasant breast) and his dad Mal's freshly baked baguettes and porcini truffle bread are for the stomach.
